Sound insulation testing
Sound Insulation Testing

Sound testing became compulsory under Building Regulations Approved Document E (ADE) in 2003 and is a requirement for converted dwellings where there is a separating partition wall or floor.  New-build houses and flats do not need to be tested for sound insulation performance if they adhere to the approved construction methods known as Robust Details. However, to gain Building Control approval, the use of such details must be registered with Robust Details Ltd, prior to construction. If a development is not registered with robust details then sound testing is required.

Our Service

We undertake sound testing throughout the north west of England, including: Bolton, Manchester, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire, Cumbria and Yorkshire.

We have four testers and can normally book you an appointment within a week of your call.  Our acoustic consultant will give you an immediate verbal indication of whether or not the sound tests has passed, and your written test report will typically be ready within a further two working days, sooner if possible. We know that passing the sound test is very important to you, that's why we pull out all the stops to make sure you get your results quickly, and cost-effectively.

Acoustic Design and Advice

If you have a scheme which needs testing please contact us early on in the development so that we can provide practical advice to ensure you meet the sound insulation requirements.  Commissioning us at the beginning of your project could save you money, whether you’re a first-timer or more experienced developer, since correcting sound insulation problems at the end of a project can require significant remedial work and be costly.  Our experienced staff has a great deal of knowledge about sound insulation products and can help ensure effective, cost-efficient sound insulation designs are in place at the outset of a building project.

Test Failures

We not only test to a very high standard but should you fail a sound test fail we have considerable experience in fixing problems with sound insulation. Basic noise mitigation advice is built into our fees for sound testing and we are used to dealing with all parties involved in the build process from architects, surveyors, contractors, designers, building control and building warranty companies. We will, whenever possible, repeat a sound test during the same visit to help you get the pass you need.  This is not always practical and solutions may not be readily available in which case we can refer you reliable suppliers.  We’re not affiliated with any manufacturer so the advice you receive is completely impartial.
